Laptop Sleeve for a Geek

Upon learning of my super awesome powers of crochet, a friend requested that I make him a black laptop bag. His desire for the logo of the "Irken Military" (from Invader Zim) shows just how geeky my friends are...

Sand Sculptures

To fill the void while I am sick, I have found some pictures of some artistic-y things created in previous years. Today I bring you....

SAND SCULPTURES!!

Unsurprisingly, I made a kitty.

Glasses case for Mum

The advantage of being a devoted crocheter is that when a loved one's birthday suddenly looms out of nowhere I can make them something personal. The issue then becomes deciding what to make... Well no such problem with Mum, since there are so many pairs of her reading glasses floating around, mostly caseless and sometimes scratched. The question then became how to decorate the case and how to make it when sitting on the couch next to her without arousing suspicion!

Dabbling with Leather

When out wandering with my Giraffe, we stumbled across Adelaide Leather & Saddlery. Being the curious creatures we are, couldn't help but go in for a browse. An hour and a giant bag of leather offcuts later, we returned home to have a play at leather working.

I decided that my toy dog Bella needed a new collar:
The cream hearts are attached with contact adhesive and the collar does up using velcro.

I was so pleased with the result that I made myself a matching wrist cuff:

Two Lips

I recently visted Sister Dear and was pleased to see the paintings I did for her 21st in pride of place on her wall in her new apartment. Also, you would swear the colour scheme had been picked just to match the paintings... I have been assured that it is blind luck and coincidence, but I prefer the idea of Fate wishing my paintings to be shown to advantage!!

Enough blah, on to the photo.

See?? See the yellow wall that makes the series look awesome??

...

ANYWAY, if I had been wearing my glasses I might have been able to get a shot in focus enough to zoom in, but I didn't so I won't so there.

Owl is a Model

I recently finished this owl brooch for a friend, based on the one I made for Giraffe's birthday. The black nose thingy gives him a more calculating look, which I like :) However, as a subject for a post all by his lonesome, I think he needs some help... which is why I shall reveal how terrible at photography I truly am!

Be warned, after the jump are lots of photos of (almost!) the same thing...

Little Flip

I may have mentioned that my Sister Dear is a budding (not to mention talented and gorgeous) actress. And if I haven't: My Sister Dear is talented and gorgeous and will one day win the hearts of all via stage and screen. Anywho, to wish her luck for her recent cabaret I made this little creature:

Yes, this is what I was aiming for when I ended up with Blue Totoro.

Bag Collection

For the birthday of Sister Dear, I set out to crochet her a makeup bag. Ta Da!

The original idea was to make it box-shaped with square ends (square cuboid? I always hated geometry), but that was full of fail so I pleated the underside and folded the top flap under to make a brush holder...

Making the Best of It

When doing my first ever crochet toy where I had to switch colours, I couldn't figure out why it kept getting fatter and fatter. Turns out, every time I changed colours I would add a stitch!

Once I realised what I was doing I was tempted to pull the stitches out and start again... until I realised that he resembled one of the little spirits who follows Totoro around in My Neighbour Totoro (the one on the right in that photo). So I turned my mistake into possibly the best thing I have made so far!

A Bit Off Track

The best thing about a blog is that while I have a chosen topic to be the focus, in reality I can write about whatever I please!! And today it pleases me to share the travel adventure of Domo, one of my favourite toys.

Domo Flies Economy

Whilst not his first trip in an aeroplane, it was the first where Domo had been allowed out of the cargo bay. Naturally he was excited by the hustle and bustle of the airport, the fascinating ritual performed by the cabin staff, and the little lights that turned on and off by magic overhead.

Taxiing down the runway was possibly the most thrilling moment of Domo's life so far... until they started to lift off. The feeling of being pressed down weighed heavily on little Domo. But not as much as the realization that he was in the air with nothing underneath him!!

Little Friends

I like making things for people.

This is Pico. He now lives on my friend's desk.

Frills, Bows and Furbelows

I was asked by a friend to make a hair clip to go with her LBD (that's Little Black Dress to the fellas). Having failed to find "just a big black bow" she asked me to make her one with my trusty glue gun.
I would call that just a big black bow, wouldn't you?

If you ever have any glue-gun special requests, let me know!
